Creation standing up to the Creator

One of the most challenging scriptures I know is . When you see how the ‘’ in verses 18 through to 32 decides that even though it ‘knows God’ it will do things its own way, you can easily be challenged to ask how does this apply to me. If I have a or have had a what is it that has become more powerful than the of God’s love for me that would make me turn my back on him. For me it comes down to and pride. I am more often aware of my , my thought life, my selfish actions and even with the prompting of the Holy Spirit I turn my back and walk away from my . Its not pretty, its not good, it has to change.

Good call Andrew. A related thing to draw from that passage is the idea of non-traditional idols and conceptual idols. Even though in some not-necessarily-pagan cultures today we don't go bowing down to stone and wood, things fashioned by our own inferior hand, we do in fact elevate to god-status other kinds of things or notions. Everyone effectively (if not quite literally) worships something. How impoverished is the worship of money, sex or power! How tempting are the sins of pride and greed! There is a barrage of worldly influences and interests upon our senses: a case to be made I guess for setting limits, and intentionally “escaping” to locations where creation is more present to our senses. Maybe that's part of the antidote: we need to immerse ourselves more in God's handiwork, to soak in the Creator's majesty! A little dose of that ought to go a long way toward quenching our unchecked pride.

I agree we are all rebellious in out own ways, I think when we read God’s word and look at His awesome creation, we should be lead to worship Him and throw away our pride and our goal to be in control.
