What I do is a uniquely different proposition from who I am. Like all of us we go through stages in life where we take on challenges, grow through experience and learn new skills. While I am involved in Christian Media as an industry or activty, I would say that I 'do' two things.
Firstly I'm a dreamer. I love to think about where we could be in 10 to 20 years time. I've come to realise that time passes quickly and we need to be where we're going. Often when my children make fun of the things of my childhood I challenge them to ask what things that they take for granted as new, innovative or cool, will be treated as old fashioned with a smirk of distain by their children. I may not invent the next time machine but I can tell you what will need to happen if you want to use one in the next decade. Dreams take time but most of all they take freedom. Let the imagination go free.
Second I'm an organiser of people. It seems that for years I've come up in various tests as an Administrator, Coach, Coordinator, Leader or something along these headings. I love to bring a team together work on the delegation of skills and let the team loose. While I can do many of the creative and management tasks that may need to be done I find more enjoyment in planning the attack and deploying the troops. If I sit in a meeting where a decision needs to be made or a sense of direction is sought I will be drawn to play a role. The old adage of a big ship being easier to turn once it has momentum is a driving thought in leading.
I love working around people. While I can focus on my own staying up all night to finish a personal project, I prefer to know there are friends around me. We can spur each other on knowing that when one is weak the other is strong. Life is like going to a watch a movie, its not the same doing it alone. Who else do you get to share popcorn with and get told off by for whispering loudly during the exciting bits.
