Accountability, the Heart Check-up

I recently came across a piece of paper from a friend in Hamilton, New Zealand. When I first got involved with Radio Rhema he challenged me to meet with him and walk through these questions. I believe they are a variant of seven questions Chuck Colson went through with his team when he formed Prison Fellowship. Its fair to say I haven’t been using these questions for over ten years and yet when I look at them they are questions I ask myself on a regular basis. I feel they are healthy spiritual check-up. Zig ZIglar would say we need a check-up from the neck-up… ie. get your head straight....

He sure know’s his Bible

This story was emailed to me by my friend Mandy Worby. It is an absolute laugh but keeps you on your toes to think about the serious nature of this story. A young seminary graduate was seeking to pastor his first church. One pulpit committee requested an interview. As the student and the committee gathered together, the chairman began the questioning. “Young man, do you know your Bible?” The young man replied, “Yes sir. I know the Bible from front to back.” Another asked, “Do you know the stories and parables?” The candidate answered, “Oh yes! I know all the stories and...

Imagine if the book of Galatians in the Bible was actually written to Christianity Today as an article by a freelance writer. In this hilarious set of ‘Letters to the Editor’ the guys at Sacred Sandwich have combined a great set of letters from concerned readers. For a moment pick up your Bible first. Read Galatians then take a few moments to walk through these letters – If you visit the link to Sacred Sandwich you will find some great comments but why not leave one here on this blog first; If Paul’s Epistle to the Galatians was Published in Christianity Today LETTERS...

Thirsty

I love this daily devotional reading from The Word for Today "I die of thirst." Judges 15:18 NKJV The Bible says: "The Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him; and…his bonds broke loose…He found a fresh jawbone…took it, and killed a thousand men…Then he…cried out to the Lord and said, ‘You have given this great deliverance…now shall I die of thirst?’" (Judg 15:14-18 NKJV). Notice three things in this story: (1) Samson allowed the enemy to bind him. What has you tied up today? What’s...

Mars Hill Church in Seattle has this January launched a new 28 week series on 1st and 2nd Peter called ‘TRIAL’. The sermon series looks at the issues taught by Peter through the eyes of ‘witnesses’. Lifting their support for other church and community groups to a whole new level MHC has even produced a 208 pg study guide free to download that deals with small group questions as well family discussion guidelines. For anyone wanting to begin a family devotional tied into a church sermon series this is brilliantly coordinated. Promotional downloads are available at the...

Thailand Grand Palace Tour

Here are a few pics of my trip through the Grand Palace on Sunday. Our guide was Rachel and she presented a brilliant explanation of the background of the buildings both from a architectural and building perspective as well as the spiritual motivations behind some of the Buddhist beliefs. A great information on the palace can be found at wikipedia by clicking here. On the same tour was the temple of the Emerald Buddha but photography wasn’t allowed inside only outside the building. However some photos and a background to this figurine can be found here. The Buddha isn’t actually...
